In the Forest of Peace in Bastogne, which was established on the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, there are 4000 trees. The trees are dedicated to the American veterans who fought in the Ardennes, to the Belgian fighters, and to the military and civilian casualties of the winter of 1944-1945. It was an emotional moment when in 1994 many veterans saw each other again after all that time. Each veteran could choose from various species of trees, and each tree received its own name. The trees are planted in such a way that the emblem of UNICEF, the mother with child, can be seen from the air.
