En el Bosque de la Paz en Bastogne, que fue inaugurado en el 50 aniversario de la Batalla de las Ardenas, hay 4000 árboles. Los árboles están dedicados a los veteranos estadounidenses que lucharon en las Ardenas, a los combatientes belgas y a las víctimas militares y civiles del invierno de 1944-1945. Fue un momento emotivo cuando en 1994 muchos veteranos se volvieron a ver después de tanto tiempo. Cada veterano pudo elegir entre diversas especies de árboles y cada árbol recibió un nombre propio. Los árboles están plantados de tal manera que el emblema de UNICEF, la madre con niño, se puede ver desde el aire.
