For the crew of the Stirling Mark III bomber with the BK712 HA-D identification mark, midsummer 1943 ended in an endless night. On their way to the target in Germany, they were shot down by a German Messerschmitt and crashed here in Langdorp. That same night, Krefeld turned into an inferno that reduced 5,500 houses and 6,000 souls to ashes.
The crew members were buried in the nearby cemetery of Langdorp.
