For centuries there was no bridge over the Demer to connect Langdorp and Rillaar. At the van Langdorp van Langdorp there was mudflats through which carts could drive in drier conditions. At the end of the 19th century, a simple ferry was operated here. The other side is still Langdorp. Not far away must have been the now disappeared church of Weerde. Nowadays, close to the village center of Langdorp, just behind the presbytery, there is a bridge, suitable for cyclists and walkers. The bridge was built in the 1990s under the impetus of the then mayor Rik Daems.
Through the bridge you also have access to the Achter Schoonhoven nature reserve, a unique area formed by the meadows of the Demer. Here, Natuurpunt Aarschot regularly organizes walks and nature management work days. This is also a unique location for horse riders. Recently (2020) part of the lock on the bridge was removed. It was placed there to keep quads and horses out.
