Genoelderen, a small street village in the source area of the Demer, has many buildings worth seeing, such as beautiful farms, the Saint Martin's Church, the remarkable Saint Apollonia chapel ... and of course the wine castle of Genoels-Elderen.
In the northern part of the village, the landscape is completely dominated by the castle's past. Genoëlderen is a castle village: a hornbeam drive connects the castle with the village center. The neoclassical wine castle is set in a landscape-style park with terrace levels and ponds. The Grootbos or the Elderenbos is situated on a steep valley slope to the east of the castle.
