Roger Decock won the Tour of Flanders in 1952. His secret to recovering from the race? Eating salted herring the day after. In the final stages of Paris-Roubaix, he filled his bidon with champagne, hoping that this would stimulate his muscles. Things didn’t happen according to plan, however, with Roger eventually drifting over the finish line. But there have been cyclists who did manage to perform thanks to a champagne bidon. Frenchman Bernard Hinault was one of them. Photo: Collection WieMu Roeselare.
