In 1961 Karel Van Wijnendaele followed the team in the Tour de France ‘caravan’ for the last time. Van Wijnendaele was obliged to leave the Tour early, returning home ill. Later that year, on 20 December, the 79-year-old jack-of-all-trades passed away. On the picture you see the funeral of Karel Van Wijnendaele.
