Only a 300m walk away from the Lange Max Museum, you can find the artillery platform of the largest German cannon. From 27 June 1917 the Germans bombarded Dunkirk with the Pommern battery from this location. Later on Ypres also became a target of Lange Max. The artillery platform is impressively huge and the landscape reminds us of the many bombardments that Pommern had to withstand. For many reasons, the cannon itself was never hit. This will be explained to visitors in the Lange Max Museum.
Extra info: the artillery platform of the Lange Max can be visited daily. Admission is free.
The Lange Max Museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 14h to 18h. Entrance fee: € 5,-.
The museum is situated along the IJzer front in Koekelare only 10 km from the statue of the “Grieving Parents of Käthe Kollwitz” in Vladslo.
