Weerdebroekstraat, 'Achter Schoonhoven'

The management focuses on the restoration of open landscape close to the river and restoration of wooded edges and forests closer to the valley edge. Wet, flowery grasslands are rare in our regions. In the past, the grass was mowed in the summer and the hay was used as fodder in the winter. In late summer, a second mowing or post-grazing followed. Many beautiful wildflowers grew on these hay meadows. Natuurpunt maintains this old hay meadow management to give those plants a chance again. The wide variety of plants also attracts many animals, especially butterflies and other flower-seeking insects.
