The impressive building opposite the Saint Nicholas Church is the former Town Hall. The first stone was laid on November 1, 1910, which can still be read on the commemorative stone in the porch. Due to the enormous growth of the population and the arrival of new industries – with not only Gilliot but also chemical and metal companies, more extensive services became necessary. Therefore, the town hall was enlarged and thoroughly renovated several times. Ultimately, it no longer met modern needs, so in 1998, the administrative services of the municipality and the police moved into part of the Saint Bernard Abbey.
