The Beeltjensdreef between Asberg and the avenue to Tongerlo was built by Jean-Philippe Eugène de Merode in 1722. It connected to the previously constructed avenue to Geel, creating a very long avenue. It still has an impressive length of almost 1500 m. This was one of the many avenues that the then Marquis of Westerlo had built within his seigneury. The avenues usually consisted of two or three rows of trees with a moat on either side. The lanes between the avenue were leased to graze cattle. The upright trees were planted for the timber yield and were cut down and replanted every 80 to 90 years. The current double row of oaks and beeches probably dates from shortly after the Second World War.
