You cannot visit Hellegat and Noeveren without having seen the Rupel. This river was, after all, the beating heart of the region. Here, economic life thrived: breweries, mills, shipyards, and loading and unloading docks of the brick factories.
In recent years, the Rupel has undergone a true metamorphosis. Now about thirty species of fish swim in the river again. Even the beaver has found a new home in the Rupel region. With a bit of luck, you can also see fish-eating birds here, such as cormorants, blue herons, grebes, or terns. Winter teals also come here regularly to search for food. Additionally, you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the area and the river from the Rupeldijk.
