This centuries-old place of worship, popularly called the 'Kruislievenheer', located along a very old gentleman's road, has always been a stopping place for hikers who wanted to take a break along this field road between Letterhoutem and Sint-Lievens-Houtem. The beautiful crucifix, beautifully arranged between five gnarled lime trees, was possibly an ancient Celtic sanctuary, dedicated to the goddess Freya, which was transformed into a Christian symbolism with the evangelistion. After many years of neglect, it was restored in 1986. The Christ figure was then made after the old model by Tom De Clippel. In 2006, however, a new statue and cross was placed after the site was destroyed.
