In the year 1500 the Sint-Lievenskapel was described as "de kercke van sente lievens houtem up sente lievens coutre up den wijnborne" alias sacred source. This adjacent source was mentioned earlier in 1472 as the "sente lievens borne". We can safely assume that it was restored and rebuilt twice as large in 1471, after the abbot of Saint Bavo had restored the worship of Livinus, after he had also restored the church of Houtem and provided it with a crypt, after its destruction in 1453. The Sint-Lievenskapel on the Kapellekouter has since become a popular place of pilgrimage. Especially around Easter people came to invoke Saint Lieven against rheumatism, fever, gout, foot and hand ailments. Above the entrance door we also notice a round-arched dated niche (1703) with the effigy of Livinus.
