On the market square, on the corner with the avenue, the De Landsheer brothers had the brewery 'Sint Lieven', which was run by Florimond and brewed the beer 'Oxford', which was available until the year 1935. His brother Frans, alias the 'sexton', had a gin distillery there. In 1910 the beer in barrels was still delivered by horse and cart, but later in 1926 they switched to cars.
