According to a wall anchor, the house dates from 1776 and was called De Slote, allegedly because it served as a cachot or prison during the French rule. The name Slote can also refer to the Damman castle in Oombergen, since this house depended on it or should we also see it as the name of the adjacent stream. On old land registry plans from the 19th century we see that it was still an enclosed square farm. According to tradition, old coins were found in the basement of the house. In the Middle Ages, cotthem was the place to be. This was a public inquiry into abuses and violations in the area, after which the convict was possibly imprisoned in De Slote for a few days.
