Welcome to De Roma! This impressive hall on Turnhoutsebaan opened in 1928 as the largest cinema in Antwerp. In addition to movie stars, music icons such as Lou Reed, Paul McCartney, and Iron Maiden also graced the stage here. After its closure in 1982, it faced decay until volunteers began to restore the building by hand starting in 2002. Today, they still maintain the warm atmosphere, from the bar to the backstage. De Roma is not an ordinary concert hall, but the beating heart of Borgerhout, on the equally vibrant Turnhoutsebaan. Fun fact: De Roma is not named after the capital of Italy, but after the first letters of its builder Jean-Baptiste Romeo and his wife Ludvina Malev. Romantic, right?
