Despite the name, the Bentille Creek is currently closer to the centre of Sint-Jan-in-Eremo than to the centre of Bentille. In the Meetjesland, this is the only creek of this size that is located on the south side of the Leopold Canal. It is separated from the Mazure Creek by this canal. Unlike most other creeks, the Bentille Creek is located in the sandy area, which also determines the riparian vegetation. The area is protected in Europe as part of the Natura 2000 area 'Polders'. Land registry maps and the atlas of the local roads show the former course of the Bentille Creek. On these maps, it originated near the residential area of Bentille. In the middle of the 20th century, the part of the Bentille creek closest to the village of Bentille was filled with household waste from the central part of the Meetjesland.
