Green connection to the Marnixbos
This part of the Ketelheide is a nature reserve according to the regional plan but is currently used as an agricultural area. The Nellebeek runs through the Ketelheide, but once in the village of Eizer, downstream it disappears into a tube. The reason is that the stream regularly caused flooding here. Moreover, the quality of the water was poor due to the discharge of polluted water from the Marnix district. In the approved Land Development Plan (LIP) IJsevallei, the Flemish Land Agency (VLM) provides for the construction of a water buffering system on the Ketelheide and to strengthen the ecological structure between the grove where we just walked through and the Marnixbos that we see in front of us. In the Marnix district, softening will be carried out in certain places so that less polluted water can run into the Nellebeek.
