This small chapel, surrounded by hornbeams, is a small rectangular and plastered building. Dating back to the end of the 19th century, the facade has a curved limestone niche inscribed "Ntre Dme de la Salette PPN".
Our Lady of La Salette is the name by which Catholics refer to the Virgin Mary as she appeared to two children (Mélanie Calvat and Maximin Giraud) on September 19, 1846, at the top of the village of La Salette-Fallavaux, near Corps, in France department of Isere. This Marian apparition, officially recognized by the Catholic Church, led to a devotion to the Virgin Mary under the name "La Salette". Several churches and shrines around the world are dedicated to her.
Notre-Dame de La Salette is also the name given to the Marian sanctuary built on the site of the apparition, in the mountain above the town of Corps (Isère).
