The Gelmelslot or Hoogstraten Castle is a castle building in the Belgian city of Hoogstraten that serves as a penitentiary school center. According to legend, in the 9th century, the Norman Gelmel erected a wooden castle tower with a moat around it. Around the 12th century, this wooden tower was converted into a stone castle. Jan IV van Cuijk rebuilt the castle in Gothic style in the first half of the 15th century. After inheritance, the castle and the land of Hoogstraten came into the hands of the Van Culemborg and Van Lalaing families.
