Kruiseke or Kruiseik is a typical farming hamlet in the Belgian city of Wervik. The village center - a few properties, drinking establishments, shops, and a row of houses - is located about four kilometers north of the center of Wervik at 38 meters above sea level in a hilly area, on top of the slope of the Leie valley. The name Kruiseke is thought to stem from the fact that the first missionaries could not eradicate the entrenched tree worship. A cross was placed on several trees, including the renowned oak between Wervik and Geluwe. The main road N8 Brussels-Kortrijk-Ieper-Coast passes near the village center.
