Kasteel van Tielen, also known as De Tielehof, is a moated medieval castle with a drawbridge located just outside the village center of Tielen in the Belgian municipality of Kasterlee, situated at Hofdreef 27. The "Kasteeldreef," a cobblestoned beech avenue, provides an additional access point in the southwest and was established during the 19th century.
The castle of Tielen is probably one of the oldest buildings in the region. As early as 1096, there was a walled watchtower here. The current castle dates back to the 14th century and was built on the site of a previously fortified and moated farm. The castle and the watermill of Tielen have always been the property of the lords of Tielen, until they were sold in the 20th century by heirs. The castle was for many years the residence of the lords of Tielen; the first lord of Tielen was Jan van Duffel-Berthout from Grimbergen, who inherited Tielen in 1320 from Hendrik IV Berthout; it is likely his successor, Hendrik van Duffel Berthout, who had the castle built around 1350 and moved in. Through marriage and succession, the castle and the watermill of Tielen later came into the hands of various noble families. The last lord of Tielen was Filip Van der Gracht de Rommerswael, who lost his property due to the French Revolution on December 7, 1810. In 1826, the seized properties were returned to the heirs. In 1958, the castle was sold for the first time.
