Hof ter Musschen, or ‘Sparrow Farm’, is reminiscent of the agricultural past of the outskirts of Brussels. Dating back to the 19th century and consisting of a farm, a windmill, a bakery and a 10-hectare green space classified as a Natura 2000 site, the estate saw its activities decline over time due to the expansion of the city and the resulting reduction in agricultural land. The 18th-century windmill at the heart of the site, which was originally created in Tournai and used for the production of flour, was doomed to be demolished following the arrival of the much more productive flour mills. Doctor Duthoit, a professor at ULB and a true enthusiast, acquired it in the 1930s and moved it to Hainaut. After his death, his heirs donated it to the municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, where it stands to this day.
