The golf course of Sint-Martens-Latem, The Royal Latem Golf Club, can be seen as unique. Everywhere the natural view of the region was destroyed by allotments, but here everything was preserved. The site is 39 hectares in size and was established in 1909. Since 1982, the golf course together with the Buizenberg behind it has been a protected area. The continental dunes were originally covered with deciduous forest and heathland, in the last century these dunes were planted with coniferous forests.
