Rupelmonde is located on the Scheldt, at the mouth of the Rupel. The village has about 3,000 inhabitants. Due to its location, Rupelmonde was able to develop into an important trading place and even had city rights from the 14th century. It was not until the late Middle Ages that an economic downturn followed. Nowadays Rupelmonde is a quiet village, which enjoys a lot of attention from tourists. They are attracted by the historical atmosphere. Spread over Rupelmonde are 33 sundials, in different types.
