Priory of Our Lady ten Hove aka Rat Castle

Description

Last remnant of the former monastery, founded in 1444 by the Ghent patrician and bailiff of Eeklo, Simoen Utenhove and his wife Margriete sBusers, wife of Bassevelde, on their property in the Waarschootse woods. This building stands on a still partly moated domain with a pillar chapel on the street, built in 1944. In the back planted former priors' house, built of brick and dating in core to the 15th century, 16th to 17th century and 18th century. This building once had a memorable place in a Nero album. It was restored a few years ago.
