The Zenne is a slow-flowing lowland river that springs in Naast in the municipality of Soignies (Zinnik) and flows into the Dijle at the so-called Zennegat near Mechelen after 103 km. It is the only river in Belgium that flows through all 3 regions! In the Brussels-Capital Region, it flows for 5 km in the open air and is covered for 9 km. There are two projects to uncover the Zenne, making it visible again over a total length of 1 km, in Brussels city and in Haren. Here, 300 m downstream from the confluence of the overflow and the river, is the Aa island, the last remaining islet formed by the Zenne branches in Brussels. In the past, the Brussels-Capital Region had six such islets, including Saint-Géry Island in the city center, and not far from here the small Island of Saint Helena, which still lives on in the name of a bus stop.
