More than 100 springs in Brussels !
One of these springs is located at the bottom of the Romanesque tower (11th century) of the former St. Peter's Church, at the foot of an embankment on the corner of Rue Meudon and Rue du Duif. From there, the water flows along the cobblestones of the Meudonstraat to end up in the sewer system just before the canal. Several associations want a natural ditch to be built along the side of the road, a kind of new stream, so that the water can flow from the springs to the canal.
A stone's throw from this source, in a parking lot at the foot of a building of the old Marly brewery (also known as 'La Marine brewery') between Rue Meudon and Rue Marly, there is a metal cover plate. Underneath we can see how much water is in the subsurface here. By the way, we cannot rule out the possibility that this plot hides other sources. In the past, the brewery used the water from the springs and the aquifer for the production of its beer and lemonade (the 'Lemonade Meudon') via a well. Towards the end of the 1970s, local supplies became too difficult. After all, there is not enough water, but the quality of that water has also become too poor. The water also fed a spectacular fountain in front of the villa of the brewery's director. At this point, the water from different sources at the site would converge into a reservoir. This is visible from the street and the overflow flows to the sewer system.
