The pond in Maloupark is visited by many waterfowl, including the impressive Canadian goose, which can have a wingspan of up to 180 cm in some individuals! Characteristic is the black color of its beak, neck, and head, as well as the white color of the cheeks and throat. As the name suggests, the Canadian goose is native to North America, where it finds its wintering and breeding grounds. Its presence here and elsewhere in Western Europe is not due to migrations from the American continent, but to human-made introductions in the 18th century in England and in the 20th century in ten other countries. The Canadian goose has perfectly adapted to these new areas, where the populations have since expanded enormously.
