The tracks in front of the old station building in Moerbeke were used until 2007 for the transport of sugar beet to the sugar factory. A small part of these tracks have been preserved during the renovation of the station building into the current library.
On these tracks today is a diesel locomotive from 1954. This locomotive is a gift from the Iscal Sugar sugar factory to the municipality of Moerbeke. The Deutz 55815 was used to pull the wagons inside the factory. It is one of the remains of the railway connection to the sugar factory.
The factory was founded as Sucrerie Jules De Cock & Compagnie in 1869 and was later taken over by the LIppens family. Until its closure in 2007, the sugar factory was an integral part of moerbeke's industrial landscape. To this day, this history leaves its mark on the village identity of Moerbeke (info website Moerbeke-Waas)
