Breaking taboos

HIV is still very much a taboo. At the same time, people are becoming a little laxer when it comes to HIV prevention. Larsen Bervoets created this mural for Sensoa, the Flemish expert centre for sexual health. Raising awareness without preaching: that is exactly what the artist set out to achieve with this mural. By highlighting this theme in this way on the city’s streets, passers-by are encouraged to think about this issue.

Playing with colours and planes

Larsen Bervoets accepted the challenge to paint his mural on a combination of buildings that was rather difficult. He has made use of two perpendicular side façades and the opening in between the two, in the most skilful manner. In spite of the spatial division, the work has become one whole. Bervoets likes to create abstract works with colour planes and shadow effects. His style is apparent in the way he combines colours, in this more figurative mural.
