Tagging is a crucial aspect of the story of graffiti and street art. But sometimes tags can really define the appearance of a street, as was the case here. That is why one of the city’s first upgrade projects with street art was organised here in 2013, on Eikenstraat. Larsen Bervoets created two extremely accessible murals, that attest to his amazing fantasy, while leaving plenty of margin for the onlooker’s imagination.

A versatile artist

Larsen Bervoets is a versatile artist, who can handle many different styles. Compare these two murals, with his other mural, We All Live with HIV, which you can see elsewhere during the tour. And don’t get us started on his abstract work, in which he combines colours, lines and shadows in the most mind-blowing way.

Curious looks from NYC

The Belgian street art scene is extremely diverse as you will realise when you take this tour. The other street art tours in Antwerp also highlight this diversity. For many years, New York was considered the hotspot for graffiti. Not that they don’t have amazing street artists there. But nowadays, American street artists are taking a keen interest on the goings on in Antwerp. It seems as if the late recognition of street art – which happened much sooner in the United States – forced artists here to continuously develop their own style.
