The St. Martin's Basilica is the symbol of Halle in Flemish Brabant. The basilica dominates the cityscape and is visible from afar.
The building dates from the 14th century and is therefore a beautiful example of Brabant High Gothic. In the course of history, the church was expanded in various styles. In 1946 she received the title of "basilica" from Pope Pius XII. Today, Halle and St. Martin's Basilica have become one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Belgium.
Inside is the statue of the Black Madonna, a miraculous statue of Mary from the 13th century. In addition, one can find many other "art treasures" such as stained glass windows and paintings inside.
Although the historic center of the city with the basilica is not on the route, it is definitely worth a visit.
