Risen from the Ashes: Reconstruction Architecture

During the First World War, the material damage in Betekom was limited: 7 houses were burned down, including the one near the church square. The style was characteristic of the very traditional reconstruction of simple houses. But if you look closely, there is a tasteful embellishment in that simplicity. Pay particular attention to the roof, the wall braiding, the shoulder pieces and the decorative anchors. Bricks were applied in different patterns or recessed in the façade. Above the arched door and window openings on the ground floor, you can see drip moldings.
