Rue de la Bougie is a dead end, leading to a gate that is sometimes open. To the left and right behind the gate you will see a narrow strip of asphalt threading its way past the backs of houses and commercial premises. This is the bed of the filled-in Petite Senne, a tributary of the Senne. Today, the space is used by car dealers to store second-hand cars, but the Brussels Region has other plans. The Parc de la Petite Senne will eventually be built here, a green belt running through Cureghem all the way from the Parc de la porte de Ninove to the Anderlecht Abattoir. You will come across both these places later in the walk. Some 20 pieces of land must first be expropriated before the Parc de la Petite Senne can be created.
To the right of the gate you can peep through the barred gate at 37 Rue de la Bougie. In 2004, ten families each bought part of the premises of an old copper polishing factory. Using private capital, they renovated the entire site to create residential lofts. Together with the plans for the Parc de la Petite Senne, this points to a new dynamism in Cureghem.
