The Voskenslaan is located south of the historic center of Ghent, near the Sint-Pietersstation and connects at the intersection de Sterre. (Wikipedia contributors, 2018)
Between 1925 and 1929, a Redemptorist church was also built on the Voskenslaan, designed in a Neo-Romanesque style that was owned by the community of Redemptorist fathers. This church is still located on the Voskenslaan. (Wikipedia contributors, 2018) Furthermore, there are also two schools from Ghent on the Voskenslaan, such as the Royal Atheneum Voskenslaan (since 1850) and the University of Ghent. (Wikipedia contributors, 2018)
The Voskenslaan was originally an old neighborhood road that used to run through the marshy and rural area of Sint-Pieters-Aalst. Between 2001 and 2003, the street was redeveloped,
which led to the demolition of several houses. This caused controversy, a point of contention due to conflicting opinions. The intention was to create a one-way street, but this was later reconsidered. As a result, cars can still drive through the street in both directions. Due to the negligible height difference between the sidewalk and the new tram line/road, pedestrians were at risk. Therefore, approximately 1000 bollards were installed to protect vulnerable road users. (Wikipedia contributors, 2018)
