At the opening of the first railway line in 1835, a memorial column was inaugurated in Mechelen. The monument was named the 'Milestone'. It was located at the zero point of the Belgian railways. From here, all distances for the train connections would be plotted. The mileposts (blue) show the distance to the starting point Mechelen. A small pole was also provided per 100 meters. Between Sint-Gillis-Waas and De Klinge these poles have been reconstructed and relocated.
Other signage
Poles with red stripes, St. Andrew's Cross (B) or St. Andrew's Cross (NL) and road signs served to warn people that they were approaching a railway crossing. At busy points, the transition was secured with a barrier. These relics were also restored and can be found in the vicinity of KLINGSPOOR.
