The Parma Canal was a canal in the Waasland that Alexander Farnese, Duke of Parma, had dug during the Siege of Antwerp in the winter months of 1584-85. The canal ran from Fort Sint-Jan on the Gentsevaart near the hamlet of Trompe in Kemzeke to Fort De Perel on the Melkader near Kallo.
There are still clear remnants of this famous waterway in the landscape. For example, the strip of reed land that runs from here towards Poachers' Forest is perhaps a remnant of the infamous Parma canal
