Transshipment is situated on both sides of the Belgian-Dutch border. It became independent in the French period (around 1800) but after the loss of Napoleon at Waterloo in 1915, the village was united by the convergence of the Northern and Southern Netherlands. At the independence of Belgium, the original borders were re-established. That is why there are 4 boundary markers here.
The border has been very decisive in the functioning of this village because laws and regulations are not always the same on both sides of the border in periods of war. This limit was also a major factor in the outbreak of the foot-and-mouth epidemic in 2001 or more recently in the context of the coronavirus measures.
