In the square in front of the town hall of De Panne, you can admire a concrete water feature and a vertical sculpture by the Maltese artist and architect Norbert Francis Attard. The proportions of both elements are based on the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical sequence that starts with 0 and 1, where each subsequent number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. This sequence is related to the perfect forms of the Golden Ratio and is often found in nature. Symbolizing the perfect form, the infinity of nature, and the grandeur of the sea is the famous spiral shape that you also see in the sculpture. The municipality of De Panne purchased the work as a permanent installation for the town square.
