Nobert Francis Attard - Beaufort 2012
On the square in front of the town hall of De Panne, you can admire a concrete water feature and vertical sculpture by the Maltese artist and architect Norbert Francis Attard. The proportions of both elements are based on the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical series that starts with 0 and 1, and in which each subsequent number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. This sequence is related to the perfect forms of the Golden Ratio and often appears in nature. Symbolizing the perfect form, the infinity of nature, and the grandeur of the sea is the well-known spiral shape that you can also see in the sculpture. The municipality of De Panne purchased the work as a permanent integration for the town square.
