Nature in the Mijlemeers threatened

The Mijlemeers is a unique piece of nature located in the Vogelzangbeek valley in Anderlecht. The beautiful landscape, consisting of forest and meadows, is home to an exceptional fauna and flora, including one of the few rookery colonies in the Brussels Region.

CCN Vogelzang CBN has been very concerned for years because about 10 ha of this beautiful nature has been colored in the Regional Zoning Plan as a zone for urban industry. The land is owned by the ULB and Citydev and major construction projects are in the pipeline. Given the problems of climate change and the predicted increase in vacant office space, it is incomprehensible that the Brussels Region continues to concretize valuable nature. Each hectare of additional concrete will put further pressure on the biodiversity of the entire valley. The Mijlemeers is the last known breeding ground of the owl in the Brussels Region.
