Description

The wastewater from the region of Halle, Beersel and Sint-Genesius-Rode used to be discharged into the Senne without purification. In 2005, the sewage treatment plant (WWTP) of Beersel was put into operation, relieving the pressure on the Senne south of Brussels. Since then, the capacity of the plant has been systematically increased. In this way, the wastewater from most of Halle, Lembeek, Beersel and Sint-Genesius-Rode (+-65,000 inhabitants equivalents) is biologically and chemically purified here. The treated water is discharged a little further into the Senne.
