The Beersellaan is a beautiful peaceful avenue with stately plane trees on both sides, but don't be mistaken; its construction demanded great sacrifices. The development of this residential area through a special zoning plan (BBP n° 13) was responsible for the suppression of no less than 2 watercourses: the Zandbeek was completely removed from its source to its mouth in the Zenne around 1955, after having previously been partially culverted. The last section of the Linkebeek, between the Alsembergse Steenweg and its mouth in the Geleytsbeek, was also completely altered. Nowadays, the water from the Linkebeek flows into an underground collector to the Zenne.
