The Province of West Flanders contacted Bjorn Van Poucke, the curator of The Crystal Ship in Ostend, to organize a competition together. The winner was allowed to put the work on the switch post and won 3,500 euros. Candidates and jury Thirteen artists applied. Nine of them also effectively submitted a draft. The design by Monja Duponcheel caught the eye of the jury, composed of Bjorn Van Poucke, Herlinde Jacobs (Flemish Land Agency), Hannelore Denolf (Westtoer), Peter Declerck (Fluvius) and Tom De Visschere (Province of West Flanders). . The jury report reads as follows: “Thematically it is correct. A very clever design, very dynamic and at a glance visitors can fully experience it. All animal groups can be found in it and it will appeal to large and small. It is close to what Bulskampveld has already released and the primal power of Bulskampveld is in it.” The work was erected in the week of November 23 and after a week of work it is completely finished and it welcomes visitors to the Aanwijs car park, which is currently being redeveloped into the new reception gate of the Bulskampveld Landscape Park and the Bulskampveld provincial domain.
