This stone column was inaugurated in 2016 on the occasion of the opening of the place Georges Dekoninck.
Georges Dekoninck, born in 1894 and died in 1958, was a Walloon artist, sculptor of religious art. We find his sculptures of wood and stone in many religious buildings in the south of our country. These works mainly adorn the church of Warnant.
His favorite subject was the Christian religion. Bodies and faces used to literally come to life in the hands of this exceptionally gifted sculptor.
On the Warnantplein, the Dekoninck family took full responsibility for financing and erecting the monument in honor of their ancestor.
This stone column shows the bearded head of Saint Joseph with the baby Jesus.
According to Georges Dekoninck's eldest son, it is his father's masterpiece in the church of Warnant.
This work was made by Pierre Ligot d'Ermeton sur Biert. This sculptor specializing in blue stone, also from Warnant, followed from an early age in the footsteps of his master who now bears a place in his name.
