Description

The row of willows that you see on the other side of the boulevard and the wide ditch in which these trees grow (willows appreciate the damp spots), indicate the old route that the Senne once followed at this place. At the exit of the island of Aa, the river therefore turned east towards the island of Sainte-Hélène. In the middle of the 20th century, this route changed due to rectification work on the river: this arm was abandoned and a new bed was dug on the north, in the direction of the current intersection of the Industriel and Paepsem boulevards.
