Building camps, climbing trees… who doesn't have fond memories of that? Children should be able to play freely in the forest and in nature. It is good for their health, motor skills, concentration and so much more. That is why, in recent years, play zones have been designated and play forests have been planted throughout Flanders. In play zones, children and young people can romp to their heart's content and do not have to stay on the paths. "A unique summer holiday in our own country is just around the corner. The perfect moment for children to fully enjoy themselves for two months in the beautiful nature that is rich in Flanders. With the play forest in the Kampveld in Waardamme we bring nature closer and can children can romp and play from early in the morning until late at night and really be a child," says Flemish Minister of Nature Zuhal Demir.
The play forest has been laid out with hills that are partly planted. The soil used for this comes from various pools dug nearby. In recent months, intensive work has been done to make the play forest even more attractive and challenging. A totem pole, animals in beautiful carvings, gangways, wooden play mushrooms, a camp… stimulate the imagination and provide relaxation and adventure in nature! The play forest fits in nicely with the play nature and playground of Oostkamp.
Are you coming to discover this unique place of play nature? The play forest is easily accessible via the car park at the Dorpsplein in Waardamme. You can easily combine a visit to the play forest with the Kampveld walking route through the Kampveld nature reserve (9 km).
The rules for the play forest in Kampveld: what is possible, what is not allowed?
The play forest is freely accessible all year round from sunrise to sunset. To build beautiful huts and other fun things, rope and wood may be brought into the play area. You take everything you bring home (waste, but also lashing ropes and other extra play equipment) back home. What is of course not allowed is to break off or saw off living branches and trees.
