Regardless of how modest the exterior of the church may be, the interior has been beautifully restored. The abundant use of yellow ensures that even in gloomy weather, the atmosphere is light and almost cheerful.
The two-meter-long, exhibited shrine of Saint Remaclus is a masterpiece of 13th-century Maasland goldsmithing. The organ dates from 1841 and is the work of the renowned Aachen organ builder Korfmacher. It was a gift from the patron Ferdinand Nicolay, who also donated the fountain of the same name in Rue Neuve. The oak pulpit with Louis XV motifs comes from the abbey. The figures on the font represent the four church fathers. The altarpiece on the main altar depicts a statue of Saint Sebastian, made by Renier Panhay de Rendeux in 1717.
Take a moment to admire the simple baptismal font from 1625, carved from a plain stone, resting on a single pillar and topped with a copper lid in dinanderie. Look for the friendly guardian angel who takes a child by the hand, crafted in 1696 by Jean Delcour, the 'Liège Bernini'.
And there is much more to see in the church and in the treasure chamber. The church is part of the 'Open Churches' and is generally easy to visit. Concerts are held regularly.
